Admission Criteria

     At SunHealth, we provide two types of care: inpatient and outpatient services. Please see below for details regarding admission criteria.

Inpatients
     Patients wishing to be admitted to our inpatient geriatric psychiatric hospital must meet the following criteria:
be 62 years or older.
be likely to benefit from treatment.
have a means of payment (private insurance, Medicare).
have a suspected psychiatric disorder.
display disruptive behavior such as assaultive, verbal aggression that is threatening or intimidating and/or demonstrate depressive behavior such as suicidal thoughts or attempts.
display psychotic behavior such as audio/visual hallucinations or delusional/paranoid behavior.
display signs of severe self mutilating behavior.
experience extreme social withdrawl.
demonstrate severe agitation.
exhibit disorientation (acute change in baseline behavior).
demonstrate incapacitating obsessiveness or ritualistic behaviors.
     If a patient is not proficient in English, an appropriate interpreter will be secured.

Outpatients
     A mental health problem exists when a person cannot function appropriately, thereby causing personal, medical, marital, family, social, financial or legal problems. This can be measured by the clinical interview, physical examination and psychological and psychiatric assessments. At SunHealth, our outpatient program effectively treats people with the following:
denial.
eating disorders.
depression.
psychiatric disorders that respond to medication (i.e., bipolar illnesses and depression).
     Patients must have the ability to pay (private, insurance, Medicare, Medicaid). If he or she is unable to consent to treatment, the Power of Attorney/guardian must sign all admission paperwork.
     Patients must meet the following criteria:
be able to comprehend written or auditory material with appropriate assistance including prosthetics. SunHealth will make every effort to accommodate individuals with visual or auditory deficits.
be medically able to participate in treatment. The individual must be stable biomedically or problems must be actively addressed and will not interfere with interventions at this level of service.

General Information
     Please note, for both inpatient and outpatient services, if a patient is not proficient in English, an appropriate interpreter will be secured for the patient prior to the patient being seen. Also, if the patient is unable to consent to treatment, the Power of Attorney/guardian must sign all admission paperwork.
